Jordan

Jordan is officially called The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Arab Kingdom is located on the East Bank of the Jordan River in Western Asia. The country is strategically situated at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. Jordan is bordered by Syria to the north, Iraq to the north-east, Saudi Arabia to the east and south, Israel and Palestine to the west. The country is washed by the Dead Sea to the west and the Red Sea to the extreme south-west. Jordan is a relatively small country. It is considered to be one of the safest of Arab countries in the Middle East. The eastern part of the country is an arid plateau irrigated by oases and seasonal water streams. The north-western part of the Kingdom has fertile soils and relatively abundant rainfall; the most of the major cities are located there. Highland area of arable land and Mediterranean evergreen forestry are located to the west of Jordan. Forests cover less than 2% of the Kingdom, making Jordan one of the least forested countries in the world. The country has a diverse range of ecosystems due to its varied landscapes and environments. There are some Nature reserves in Jordan. Over 2.000 plant species have been recorded in the country. The Dead Sea is the saltiest water body and the lowest point on the earth. Amman is the capital, the largest and most populous city of Jordan
